I believe we should pick a service dog that fits us. We must check on our energy level. Does the energy of the dog match ours?
Hair type...can we handle it's length? Allergies? If a person has allergies pick a breed whose hair may not increase your allergies. I have a Malchi. She has the energy of a Chihuahua and the low allergic response of a Maltese coat.
So take your time when finding the right service dog. Take a look at your life. Does this dog fit into it. Are you willing to spend the time to train and raise a puppy? Or do you want to start with an older dog?
Also having a service dog means keeping that dog with you 95 percent of the time. Make sure it is a good match. One way is to have a trainer evaluate the dog before purchase. It may add cost to the dog. But in the long run you well save time, energy
and tears. Some dogs are just not a good match for some people. So go slow.
